Gwendy Bannerman

Gwendy is a partner of n. dowuona & company. Her areas of expertise are corporate & commercial, banking & finance and dispute resolution.

She recently advised an international company on an asset purchase transaction of a listed company. In the energy sector, she is currently advising a joint venture company in Ghana, on its legal obligations particularly on the local content requirements. In her multi faceted role as Counsel at Fugar & Company, she provided legal advice on local laws and regulatory requirements, to local and international businesses, corporations, financial institutions, government agencies and investment companies.

In her previous experience, she was part of the team that advised and worked with Linklaters law firm, on the proposed bid of an international company for a stake in Ghana Telecom. She advised an Australian-based multinational corporation, with global operations in the Mining and Oil Industry, on their direct investment in the Newmont Ahafo Project. She advised a local bank on its participation in the US$400million term loan syndication for the Ghana Airport Expansion Project. She contributed to the compilation of the “Doing Business” Report, an initiative of the World Bank Group.

Her financial sector experience in a listed commercial bank saw her conducting legal due diligence, drafting and reviewing financing agreements, advising on joint ventures, share and asset sale agreements, and providing commercial litigation particularly for debt recovery.

As part of her experience in the agricultural sector, she participated in the Codex Conference, organized by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Rome, where internationally recognized standards, codes of practice and other guidelines, relating to food safety, were drafted and adopted by Member States.

Gwendy holds an LLB from the University of Ghana and a qualifying certificate in Law/Barrister-at-law from the Ghana Law School, where she received the best award for Advocacy & Legal Ethics and the Law of Evidence. She is listed on the Martindale-Hubbell list of qualified Legal Counsel and is a member of the Ghana Bar Association.
